We often feel like we shouldn't start something unless we are going to master it or see it through to the end. But I have found that some of my most important lessons came from projects I eventually abandoned. The act of starting is where the courage lies, and the initial exploration is often where the most growth happens.
Permission to Play Around
I have half-painted canvases and partially written stories tucked away, and I no longer see them as failures. They were stepping stones that taught me a new technique or helped me understand what I don't actually enjoy doing. Giving myself permission to experiment without the pressure of a finished product has opened up my creativity in amazing ways.
Embracing the Journey Itself
When we focus too much on the finish line, we miss the fun of the messy middle. I encourage you to pick up that instrument, start that sketch, or try that new recipe just for the sake of doing it. You might find a new passion, or you might just have a fun afternoon, but either way, you have enriched your life by simply trying.
